Your weekend gear:
Order Campari
In winter, I see no consequences
Catch cold
That’s okay, you didn’t want to leave the house anyway
Drink Lemsip
Actually good, this cocktail of colds can stay
I was feeling introverted this week. Just as well, I caught a cold.
When I made this drink I didn’t share any. As I said, introverted, and my throat was scratchy, you wouldn’t have wanted some anyway.
This is an Americano (and has nothing to do with coffee). Made from Campari, sweet vermouth and soda, it’s like a gentle, fizzy Negroni. Less intense, less raucous. But then again, it was mentioned in the James Bond books, something about an abrasive assassin.
This is also very easy. Just equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth, with as much soda as you want. Plus, it’s stirred together in the serving glass. But I tripled-batched it in a larger vessel, because it’s the weekend, and I can do what I want. Like any other day of the week. (More on batching in the book…)
It’s also served with a slice of orange, which I like, it’s nice to have something to gnaw on. I gave the orange a little lick from a lighter, for smoke, it’s not necessary, but maybe more Bond. Oranges are also meant to help with colds, but look at me, cuddled up with Lemsip, probs wasn’t doing it right.
Lemsip in whiskey can’t be bad either…. can it? I’ll let you know. But won’t be sharing. Obviously.
Until my fizz comes back, top your Americano up with extra soda. Quantities below.
